Huang Village is a place rich in historical and cultural heritage, embodying the memories and traditions of generations of villagers. The design vision for the "Huang Village Rural Research Center" is to focus on local cultural research and development, becoming a research base for rural construction in Huang Village and the southern Anhui region.

The project involves a residential building dating back to the late Ming Dynasty, covering an area of approximately 570 square meters, with a building area of about 380 square meters. The entrance features a square plaza of around 400 square meters, while there is a vegetable garden of about 230 square meters on the west side. The building showcases Huizhou architectural style and consists of two stories. The facade and main wooden structure have undergone several repairs over the years in Shangshan Town, and they remain relatively well-preserved. The design layout considers the original architectural style, focusing on the restoration and maintenance of the building while also redesigning the interior spaces to meet new functional requirements.

After multiple on-site surveys, the team determined that the original wooden framework of the old building is well-preserved and can be retained with minor repairs. However, the walls, floors, and other structural elements are severely deteriorated and no longer meet safety or contemporary usage standards. Furthermore, investigations revealed that these components were later additions during maintenance and do not possess historical preservation value. Therefore, the decision was made to fully preserve the traditional wooden framework while adding contemporary wooden structural walls and floors to ensure safety and usability.

The newly added charred wood panels seamlessly blend with the material texture and color of the old building. The wooden ribbed wall construction method, slightly modified from local traditional practices, creates a subtle harmony between the old and the new. The interior incorporates modern materials such as plywood and glass mosaics, breathing new life into the old building.
